played college basketball at Idaho (SG/PG)Leonard Perry has been around every level of basketball. He has learned from some of the best in the NBA and NCAA. His career has pitted his teams against some of the best programs and teams. In this video, Coach Perry leads you through early offense actions that you can incorporate into your transition game and some after timeout sets to help you get a leg up on your opponents. Importantly, these sets allow you to build systems around your specific player strengths and team dynamics!
Early Offense
Putting pressure on your opponents is key to any type of offense. Coach Perry uses 2 types of fast break offense: Runouts and Transition.
These 2 types of fast break offenses lead players to attack mode where players are trained to not freeze on the catch, if it's a good shot you like-take it, don't let the defense get settled, and look to score in the first 4 seconds.
Coach Perry will use several early attack offenses including Chicago - stretch post player knocking down a shot or double stagger away.
In Drag, your point guard will use a trail drag screen to hit a throwback 3pt shooter, pitch the ball ahead, and make the defenses 5 man useless on defense.
In Pistol Action, you can use a pitch ahead for a handoff, flare screen, or re-screen scoring option to create scoring opportunities with a knock down shooter and your point guard attacking the rim.
ATO's
Every team needs an after timeout set that gets them a quick bucket or the score they need to keep momentum going in a game. Coach Perry demonstrates several of his favorite after timeout sets they have used to get them a must needed score.
Using a Horns Setup, Coach Perry will outline how you can use a random ball screen into your after timeout sets to keep your offense from being unscoutable.
In Blast, you can use a Horns setup to create a backdoor play or turn it into a dribble handoff option for a pindown to get your best shooter open.
Coach Perry will also demonstrate Zoom Options to use out of a Horn set to get a pick and roll or hit a shooter coming off of a flare screen.
Bolstering your offense can take your program to the next level. Transition offense is one phase of the game where you can control tempo, include early actions to score quickly, and look to pressure your opponents the entire length of the floor. The Early offense actions that Coach Perry demonstrates will add to your teams fast paced style of play and lead to easy buckets. Throw in a few after timeout sets and you will have your team rockin' and rolling on the offensive end. This is a video you will want to add to use to grow your playbook and expand the scoring possibilities!
